In 1548, the prior of Saint-Melaine had the right to tithes on the Clos des Boëtes, dependent on the barony of Claye. Every year he had to go to the Château de Brissac and offer the lord of this place, who was at the same time Baron de Claye, two well-cooked fouasses of good taste; the baron tasted them in his presence, and if they were not seasoned according to the rules, the prior was obliged to return every week to make a new offering.
The barony of Claye received a large number of royalties of this type; thus, in the confessions of this barony, we find several inhabitants obliged, in 1455, to pay a rent of a scalded and a pint of wine, for houses which were granted to them by the said lord.
The abbess of Fontevrault owned land at a place called Fontaine-du-Mont, commune of Murs; every year she had to come and take, in the hands of Baron de Claye, an oath of obedience. It was the same for the fiefdom of the lord of La Crossonnière.
