The society of Anglo-French Clays was started in the early days of 2024 as a spin off from The Clay society of England, it was started as a result of finding Walterus de Clais, a Frank in the Cambridge section of the Domesday book.
There have been suggestions from academics that he came from the village of Clais in Normandy.
Further research found the name Clay in its many forms were all across France as the names of individual families and place-names.
The aim of the society is to promote reseach into the connections between the Clays of France and the Clays of England and to further that aim we need both English and French male volunteers to undergo DNA tests using FamilytreeDNA testing.
A confidential data base is kept by the Clay of England society and also by our American cousins, of the Clay family society.
